Monterey Institute faculty members Kenneth Coleman and Raymond Zilinskas of the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies were recently referenced in an article about Botox as a bio-weapon. The story, headlined “Officials fear toxic ingredient in Botox could become terrorist tool,” was featured by United Press International and ran in The Washington Post and on MSNBC.com, among others. Coleman and Zilinskas co-authored a study exploring the use of Botox, one of the world’s deadliest poisons, as a weapon for terrorists. Coleman, a senior fellow for the Chemical and Biological Weapons Nonproliferation Program (CBWNP), tells The Washington Post: “It is the only profit-making venture for terrorists that can also potentially yield a weapon of mass destruction.” According to the Monterey County Herald, Zilinskas, director of CBWNP, and Coleman prepared the report over fourteen months for the Department of Defense.
