NY Times Quotes CNS/MIIS Nuclear Arms Expert On Prospects For New Agreement

Dr. Nikolai Sokov, senior research associate at the Monterey Institute's James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, was quoted in one of the lead articles in yesterday's New York Times. Headlined "Nearing New Arms Pact, U.S. and Russia Look Beyond It," the article focuses on prospects for a nuclear arms agreement between the United States and Russia that may include tactical nuclear weapons located in the European theater. In the article Sokov, a former Soviet arms control negotiator himself, observes that the current impasse on tactical nuclear weapons represents “the longest deadlock on the entire arms control agenda.”
