November 15, 2009
Dr. Jing-dong Yuan, director of the East Asia Non-proliferation Program at the Monterey Institute’s James Martin Center for Non-proliferation Studies, offered an assessment of prospects for President Barack Obama’s current eight-day, four-country trip through Asia in an article published Friday by Asia Times Online.
Beginning with an analysis of current political conditions in Japan, South Korea and China, Dr. Yuan stressed the central role the US-China relationship will play in setting the tone for the region and suggests that an approach based on “strategic reassurance” may be helpful in fostering effective bilateral relations with China.
